Event Photography - Brighton Marathon 2012

15th April 2012
I was very privileged to have been selected to officially photograph the runners and winners of this year's Brighton Marathon.

It was a long day which involved getting up at 6 in the morning to ensure that I got to Brighton and the finish line for 9am. After that time, I would not have been able to meet the organisers and gain access to the shooting area.

After approximately 7 hours of shooting, standing, walking and talking, my eyes were boggling, my feet were killing me and I am sure I was taking on more water than the runners themselves.

I did think it a little selfish to be complaining of sore feet and a parched throat, when faced with people who had just run 26 odd miles though!

It was a great day and was a departure from my usual style of photography; the vibe was brilliant, as was the sheer diversity of emotions in the runners. Some were ecstatic, some were crying, others looked like extras from 'Dawn of the dead', some definitely did not want their photos taken, others thought it was the best idea ever and it was these guys that I took so much enjoyment from.

Well done to all who took part, to the organisers, medal guys, water people, shiny-blanket handy-outy people and not forgetting the first aiders who did such a brilliant job on the day.
